Former BYU star Taysom Hill says farewell to New Orleans Saints

SALT LAKE CITY – Taysom Hill will no longer be a member of the New Orleans Saints.
The former BYU football star announced on social media that his time with the Saints has come to an end. This comes one day before the Saints officially open Training Camp for the 2026 season.

Whether Hill is retiring or signing with a new NFL team was not made clear in Hill’s post.

“For the last nine years, New Orleans has been so much more than the city where I played,” Hill said in a statement on social media. “It’s where my family built a life, where our oldest son was born, and where we formed relationships and made memories that will stay with us forever.
“I’ve taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me. I still don’t have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards. As training camp begins, I didn’t want my silence to be misinterpreted, and as hard as it is to put into words, I wanted to express my gratitude.”
Mr. Football
The Saints later put out a highlight video with the caption “Mr. Football” that was narrated by Saints legend Drew Brees. Hill and Brees were teammates from 2017 to 2020.

Hill joined the Saints in 2017 after being claimed off waivers, following being cut by the Green Bay Packers.
During his time in New Orleans, Hill was a quarterback, tight end, wide receiver, and special teams ace.
Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis issued a statement following Hill’s announcement.
“Taysom’s career to this point as a member of the Saints organization has been remarkable in all facets. His intelligence, unique athletic ability, versatility, and unselfishness have benefited this team in many facets for the past nine seasons. Additionally, he’s been a great teammate, excellent leader, and mentor. We thank Taysom for all his great contributions, and we are positive that a day will come when all his accomplishments can be properly celebrated.”
Incredible stats with the Saints
Hill has posted career totals of 2,426 passing yards, 2,551 rushing yards, and 1,034 receiving yards. He also had 489 yards in kick returns, while also posting 19 tackles on the defensive side.
Hill was an accomplished quarterback during his time at BYU from 2012-2016.
The Pocatello, Idaho native will turn 36 years old in August.
