Former BYU DB Zayne Anderson Signs Contract With Kansas City Chiefs

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Could Zayne Anderson be the next Daniel Sorensen for the Kansas City Chiefs? The former BYU defensive back/linebacker signed an undrafted free agent contract with the two-time AFC Champion Chiefs moments after the final pick of the 2021 NFL draft.

Anderson’s agent, David Canter from DEC Management announced the signing.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has a history of taking BYU players as undrafted free agents, with Daniel Sorensen being the most successful. Anderson, like Sorensen when he was coming out of BYU in 2014, is versatile athlete on the backend of a defense.

A three-star recruit in the class of 2015 out of Stansbury Park, Utah, Anderson played in 50 games during his BYU career, recording 162 tackles, three interceptions, and six pass breakups.

In 2017, Anderson switched from safety to linebacker and remained there till week two of the 2019 season. During an upset win over No. 6 Wisconsin in 2018, Anderson had 11 tackles. Two weeks later, he suffered a season-ending injury.

In 2019, Anderson battled a shoulder injury limiting him to only two games played.

Heading into his senior year in 2020, Anderson dabbled at cornerback during spring practices, before returning his natural position at safety.

Anderson played in 11 games in 2020, recording 41 tackles.

At BYU’s Pro Day in March, Anderson ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and put together an impressive 6.78 3-Cone Drill time.
