SALT LAKE CITY – Former Salt Lake Bee Jared Walsh went 4-5 at the plate in becoming the ninth player in Angels history to hit for the cycle.
Walsh hit for the cycle in the Angels 11-6 win over the New York Mets on Saturday, June 11.
To hit for the cycle, a player must hit for a single, double, triple and home run in the same game.

Walsh’s first at-bat ended with a first inning strikeout but Mets pitchers wouldn’t retire him again
In the third inning, Walsh came to the plate with phenom two-way player Shohei Ohtani in scoring position at second second base. Walsh pulled single to right for his first hit of the game. Unfortunately for Walsh and the Angels, Ohtani was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning.
In the fifth, Walsh took a pitch the other way, one-hopping the wall in left-center for a standup double.
Leading off in the seventh with an 8-1 lead, Walsh launched a majestic, no-doubt blast to right. The home run was his eleventh of the season and left him a triple shy of the elusive statistical achievement.
With two runners on and a 9-2 lead, Walsh stepped to the plate to face Mets pitcher Trevor Williams. On a 1-1 count, Walsh lifted a ball to centerfield. Mets outfielder Khalil Lee sprinted in on the ball, eventually leaving his feet in an attempt to make a head first diving catch. Lee misjudged the dive, allowing the ball to skip underneath his glove and bounce all the way to the wall. By the time left fielder Mark Canha was able to get to the ball, Walsh was pulling up with a standup triple.
“He dove and I yelled ‘CYCLE’ right when he dove and it went by him,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said postgame. “That’s a neat moment for Jared.”

The triple was the first of the season for Walsh and just the fifth of his career.
Shohei Ohtani was the last Angel to hit for the cycle, accomplishing the feat on June 13, 2019 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Walsh had a .307 batting average across two seasons and 145 games for Salt Lake in 2018 and 2019. He had 43 doubles and 44 home runs in a Bees uniform.
