SANDY, Utah – Nedum Onuoha’s header late in the game wasn’t enough for Real Salt Lake in their comeback attempt as they fell to the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1.

Onuoha’s goal came in the 89th minute of Wednesday night’s game on a pass from Sebastian Saucedo.

The Galaxy came out in the second half scoring two goals and creating an uphill battle for RSL in the final minutes of play. Onuoha gave the home squad a fighting chance down the stretch a nice header.

Ultimately, Real Salt Lake couldn’t find the equalizer in a game with playoff implications.

The Galaxy entered the match with a 48-47 lead over RSL in the Western Conference standings. After the victory, LA will extend that lead with 51 points. The Galaxy also leaped the Seattle Sounders for third place with the three points won.

Real Salt Lake had their opportunities on Wednesday night. RSL possessed the ball 53% of the match and outshot the Galaxy 18-11. The home team also had an advantage in shots on goal 5-3.

The Galaxy were lead to victory with goals from Cristian Pavon in the 50th minute and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 80th minute.

Real Salt Lake is now in fifth place in the Western Conference with two matches remaining.

RSL will host the Houston Dynamon in their final home game of the 2019 regular season on Sunday, September 29 at 5:30 p.m. (MDT). The game is available on the KSL TV app.
