Real Salt Lake Acquire General Allocation Money, Monarchs Sign Youth International Standout

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake acquired $50,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money from Houston Dynamo in exchange for Homegrown exclusivity to Brooklyn Raines.

Real Salt Lake previously held the rights to Raines via its Homegrown territory.

The Real Monarchs have signed John “Jack” Imperato to an MLS Next Pro contract ahead of the inaugural MLS Next Pro season, the club announced.

“The Club is delighted to welcome John Thomas Imperato to Salt Lake City and the Real Monarchs. John is an exciting young attacking player with experience at the youth national team level. We look forward to seeing his continued growth within our organization,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.

Imperato, 19, comes to Utah having spent the majority of his youth career with Villareal CF’s academy in Spain. He played for the under-19 team following graduation from the Villareal Academy before going on loan to CD Roda.

This past year, Imperato returned to the United States and made three appearances with Orange County SC in the USL.

At the international level, Imperato made appearances with the United States under 15 and under 17 teams where he made a combined 9 appearances.

Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date. This move comes after seven seasons in the USL Championship, during which the team won the 2019 USL Championship Cup, the 2017 USL Regular Season Shield, and the Western Conference Title in both 2017 and 2019, while also qualifying for the postseason in 2018.
