Real Salt Lake Estimated To Be Worth $420 Million In Recent Evaluation

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake is estimated to be worth $420 million, according to a recent evaluation by Sportico.

“Sportico is a high-quality digital content company providing sports industry breaking news, data, information, strategies, leadership and insight,” their Twitter bio reads.

The $420 million evaluation ranks Real Salt Lake as the 22nd most expensive team in Major League Soccer. The only teams ranked lower than Real Salt Lake are FC Dallas, Orlando City, Vancouver, Montreal, and Colorado Rapids.

On May 12, 2021, it was announced that the Wilf family purchased Orlando City SC for a price somewhere between $400 to $450 million. Sportico has Orlando City SC estimated to be worth $400 million in their recent evaluation.

Real Salt Lake is still searching for an owner, following Dell Loy Hansen’s announcement last summer that he is going to sell the team following allegations of workplace misconduct.

Major League Soccer gave Hansen until January 8th to find an appropriate buyer. He was unable to do so therefore gifting the sale process over to the league.

A few days later, MLS Commissioner Don Garber was quoted saying that he is “hopeful to sell the team in 2021.”

Garber said the league's investigation found Dell Loy Hansen engaged in conduct that was "inappropriate for the workplace" and "contrary to the values" of MLS and RSL. Said team has taken over the sale of RSL and is hopeful it can sell the team in 2021.

Since then, many rumors have appeared but nothing concrete has come of the RSL ownership dilemma. Many pundits assumed Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith was the front runner in the quest to own Real Salt Lake. However, his latest remarks on social media indicate that the league is asking too much for the sale and that he is not willing to pay as much as the league is asking for.

The sale price that the league is requesting remains unknown.
