SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake boss Pablo Mastroeni shared his thoughts regarding yesterday’s mass shooting at Uvalde Elementary School that killed 19 children and 2 teachers.

“I can’t for a second begin to even try to empathize with the parents of the kids that were lost,” Mastroeni, a father of two, said. “Because when my kids get hurt my heart jumps into my throat. I think it is a pivotal time in history to really make a change to allow young American kids go to school feeling confident about who they are, who they want to become, their futures, and I think we as parents provide that type of confidence knowing that there are safeguards in place that will not allow these situations to arise in the future.”

On Tuesday, May 24, an 18-year-old gunman and resident of Uvalde, Texas, walked into Robb Elementary School and opened fire killing 19 children and 2 teachers before being shot dead by local law enforcement.

As the death toll continues to rise, it is already the second-deadliest shooting at an elementary, middle, or high school on record in the United States.

“It is a tragic time for us and I think that we need to come together as a country and really put all of the political stuff aside and think about what we want for the future of our kids,” Mastroeni added.

Steve Kerr’s Emotional Plea

Mastroeni joins the likes of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr who has also spoken publicly on the matter. Prior to game 4 of the Western Conference Finals between Kerr’s Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks Kerr spoke on the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

“When are we going to do something?!” Kerr emotionally said. “I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there, I am tired of the excuses, I am sorry, I am so tired of the silence. Enough!”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox Statement

Utah Governor Spencer Cox took to Twitter to remind parents and kids of the SafeUT app which is a crisis line and tip line for students who may feel in danger.
