Real Salt Lake To Make Decision On New Manager Within 14 Days

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake will make their decision on who the new manager of the club should be within the next two weeks, according to a report from Jeff Carlisle of ESPN.

Spoke w/#RSL GM Elliott Fall. Said RSL will try to make a decision on manager in "next 10 days to 2 weeks." Added there are 5-6 finalists. He wouldn't ID them specifically, but said they had spoken to: Mastroeni, Donovan, Kreis, Kinnear, Noonan as well as Luchi Gonzalez. (1/x)

A lot of speculation has surrounded the coaching search, with many names being linked to the job including the likes of Landon Donovan, Pat Noonan, Dom Kinnear, Pablo Mastroeni, Jason Kreis, Luchi Gonzalez, among others.

Real Salt Lake general manager has made it public that the club is entering the final stages of the coaching search. The interview process is dwindling down to the finalists as they determine what the next best move is for the future of the club.

Some final interviews have already been scheduled and have already taken place. While other candidates are finalizing final interview dates.

On August 27th Freddy Juarez departed Real Salt Lake in an effort to join Seattle Sounders as an assistant coach. Since then, Pablo Mastroeni has taken over on an interim basis and has shown his leadership qualities throughout the last handful of months.

Immediately, he changed the shape of the team from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-5-2 and has emphasized creating more goal-scoring chances. He wants to win games and the way to do that is to score more goals than your opposition.

However, despite the team scoring more goals under Mastroeni, they are also conceding more. The defensive shape of the team has been a concern and is the club’s biggest priority during the current international break.

Mastroeni is one of the front runners to take the job. Philadelphia Union assistant coach Pat Noonan has also been heavily linked to the job.

It remains unknown where general manager Elliot Fall’s head is at, however, an expected announcement is scheduled for the near future.
