Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals FC Holding Drive-Through Light Show To Support Healthcare Workers

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC partnered with the RSL Foundation and Wonder Entertainment in presenting a drive-through “Light the RioT” light show in support of healthcare workers in Utah.

Wonder Entertainment is an organization that helps run other events like Ice Castles, Christmas in Color, Summer Splash, and the North Pole Festival.

The soccer clubs announced that the week-long event at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy will begin on May 4. The drive-through light show will last 20 minutes and will feature over 1 million LED lights that will be synchronized to music.

Visitors to the light show will be able to use their vehicle’s radio to listen to the show’s music.

“Light the RioT” runs until May 13. Visits to the light show will run from 8:30 p.m. (MDT) until 11:00 p.m. each night.

The first night of the event will be a special free preview night for frontline healthcare workers. The general public is invited to visit beginning on Tuesday, May 5.

Admission to the drive-through show is $30. All proceeds from the event will go towards Frontline Relief during the coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus Relief Efforts

Major League Soccer suspended its season, including Real Salt Lake matches, in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since the shutdown of sports, teams including Rimando’s former squad have pushed forward relief efforts for COVID-19.

In early April, the RSL Foundation, Utah Royals FC, and Real Salt Lake joined forces to help support the nurses and doctors on the front lines during the fight against COVID-19 by creating the “Feeding Our Frontline” Initiative.

In late March, Major League Soccer alongside the Major League Soccer Players Association unveiled the “MLS Unites” platform to highlight “all of the efforts that MLS players, coaches, clubs and the league are doing to address the important messages and programs taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

How Do I Prevent It?

The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:

• Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
• Avoid touching your face
• Stay home when you are sick
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

If you’re worried you may have COVID-19, you can contact the Utah Coronavirus Information Line at 1-800-456-7707 to speak to trained healthcare professionals. You can also use telehealth services through your healthcare providers.

If you see evidence of PRICE GOUGING, the Utah Attorney General’s Office wants you to report it. Common items in question include toilet paper, water, hand sanitizer, certain household cleaners, and even cold medicine and baby formula. Authorities are asking anyone who sees price gouging to report it to the Utah Division of Consumer Protection at 801-530-6601 or 800-721-7233.
