SALT LAKE CITY — With the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, Duke forward Cam Boozer is a slept-on candidate to land with the Utah Jazz.
Boozer put together an all-time college freshman season with the Blue Devils and all but locked himself in as a top selection in June’s draft.
Below is a full breakdown of his game, strengths, weaknesses, and potential fit in Utah.

Feel, Versatility, And Dominance: Cam Boozer As A Prospect
Since his freshman year in high school, Boozer has found a way to win, win again, and win some more.
Four high school state championships, two FIBA gold medals, an Elite Eight run with Duke, and a laundry list of individual accolades.
Boozer won’t impress anyone with flashy handles or highlight dunks, but he manages to get the job done every time he steps foot on the hardwood.

Standing at 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds with a wingspan reportedly around 7 feet, Boozer was a matchup nightmare at the college level.
However, his game wasn’t bound to the paint like Zach Edey at Purdue or Kenneth Lofton at Louisiana Tech. He showed real chops at getting downhill, working out of the high post, and even stretching the floor past the three-point line.
Boozer’s game starts on the inside and moves out. Over 60 percent of his shots came at the rim, about 13 percent came in the mid-range, and 26 percent of his attempts came from three.
The three-point shooting in college was impressive for a player pinned with the reputation of an interior scorer. He shot 42 percent on unguarded catch-and-shoot threes, 39 percent on guarded catch-and-shoot threes, 49 percent on spot-up threes, and 44 percent on pick-and-pops.

Although the deep ball is in his arsenal, Boozer’s bread and butter is made inside of 15 feet. He often operates out of the post. He isn’t quite as savvy as AJ Dybantsa in terms of getting to his spot, but he definitely has a handful of moves to either maneuver or move the defense.
He projects to be an offensive hub-type of big man, as his passing ability was on full display in 38 games with the Blue Devils. The bottom line is, you can trust Boozer to make the right play on nine out of 10 possessions.
Some question if Boozer’s bruising style will translate to the NBA. There are valid concerns there, but his overall feel and IQ, passing, rebounding, and especially his shooting, should transition over rather smoothly.
Could Cam Boozer Fall Flat In The NBA?
All of the concerns with Boozer stem from his lack of general athleticism.
He mostly plays below the rim, and his reliance on brute strength likely won’t fly in the bigger, faster, stronger NBA. The questions are fair to ask, but it’s hard to imagine an outcome where he isn’t at least solid in the pros on the back of his versatility and overall feel for the game.
Boozer was a good defender at the college level, mostly just struggling in the rim protection department. He doesn’t have the defensive floor of Caleb Wilson or even the ceiling of Dybantsa. But he has the strength and motor to be at least passable on that end.

All in all, the “weaknesses” in Boozer’s game are less about actual shortcomings and underdeveloped skills, and more so questions about whether he can continue to do what he does best at the next level.
He might not have the upside of his peers in the top four, but there is a real argument that he is the only floor-raising, “can’t miss” prospect in the class.
How Would Cam Boozer Fit With The Utah Jazz?
Boozer’s fit in Utah isn’t picture perfect, but he might be as helpful as any rookie could be as the Jazz aim to play postseason basketball next year.
He wouldn’t start in place of Lauri Markkanen, Jaren Jackson Jr., or Walker Kessler (assuming Utah brings him back), but he would almost instantly become the leader of the bench unit with the ability to run with some combinations of starters.
Utah would benefit from Boozer’s passing ability and innate ability to win. The fit could become even better if he can progress as a perimeter defender.
Depending on his development, Utah might end up in a predicament where they have four starting, or even All-Star caliber, frontcourt players. Too much talent is a good problem to have, but the front office may have to get creative in navigating that.
