Finland, Markkanen Advance Out Of EuroBasket Group Play

SALT LAKE CITY – Despite a disappointing close to their Group Play schedule, Lauri Markkanen and Team Finland advanced to the Tournament Stage.
Finland concluded Group Play on Wednesday with an ugly 91-61 loss to Germany.
With the loss, the host country dropped to 3-2 at EuroBasket.
Finland Advances To Tournament Play At EuroBasket
After a hot start at EuroBasket, Markkanen had two difficult performances to wrap up Group Play for Finland.
The Utah Jazz All-Star scored 19 points on 6-17 shooting in Monday’s 91-88 loss to Lithuania, before managing just 11 points on 4-15 shooting against Germany.

Finland had already advanced through to the Tournament Round before hosting Germany, allowing Markkanen to play just 22 minutes without fear of being eliminated.
Germany won Group B with a perfect 5-0 record, while Lithuania finished second with a 4-1 record. Finland finished ahead of Sweden, Montenegro, and Great Britain with a 3-2 record.
The top four teams from each of the four groups qualify for the round of 16 tournament, beginning on September 6 in Latvia.
Procida Makes Debut At EuroBasket
Gabriele Procida made his long-awaited EuroBasket debut in Italy’s 67-63 over Spain on Tuesday.
Procida, whose draft rights belong to the Jazz, scored three points in eight minutes after failing to see the floor in each of Italy’s first three games.

Team Italy currently owns a 3-1 record and will wrap up Group Play against a winless Cyprus roster on Thursday.
Italy has already advanced to Tournament Play and will compete in the round of 16 on Sunday.
Nurkic Faces Must Win On Thursday
Jazz center Jusuf Nurkic will look to push Bosnia and Herzegovina into Tournament Play on Thursday when they face Georgia to conclude the Group Stage.
Both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia have 2-2 records, and the winner will earn a trip to the EuroBasket Tournament stage, while the other will be sent home.
Nurkic is averaging 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds through four performances with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
