Former Jazzman Ricky Rubio Pays Tribute To Mom In Players’ Tribune Article

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Former Jazz and current Phoenix Suns point guard Ricky Rubio wrote an article in the Players’ Tribune about his mother’s battle with cancer.
Rubio wrote about his relationship with his mother and what happened after her first diagnosis, beating cancer and it returning, all while he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves. She passed away after the 2015-16 season.
He mentioned his time in Utah was that things “happened for a reason.” Rubio was traded to the Jazz before the 2017-18 season, the first season that teams can wear ad patches on their uniforms. When Rubio arrived, Qualtrics announced that they will donate their ad on the Jazz jersey’s to “5 For The Fight,” with proceeds going to cancer research.

Rubio recalled the times that he visited the Huntsman Cancer Institute and other hospitals in Utah, meeting with kids and families. A year after arriving in Utah, he started the Ricky Rubio Foundation in honor of his mother.
The NBA veteran signed with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent during the off-season and has already played the Jazz once, losing by one point at home on October 28.
