Jazz Can’t Overcome 50 Points From Giannis In Loss To Bucks

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The Utah Jazz couldn’t get past the Milwaukee Bucks and reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo 50 points in their 122-118 loss to the Bucks.

It’s the second time in his career that Antetokoumpo has scored 50 points or more in a game. He also  His career high is 52.

The Jazz had control of the game in the first half, taking a 57-48 lead into the halftime break. But, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks made a big run in the third quarter, outscoring the Jazz 42-26, including a 26-9 run to lead 93-80 at the end of the third quarter.

Antetokounmpo scored 32 of his 50 points in the second half. He also had 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals, while shooting 17-31 from the field, 3-8 from downtown and 13-19 from the free throw line in 39 minutes.

For the Jazz, Bojan Bogdanovic scored 24 points to lead the team. He drilled 5 triples in 8 attempts. Donovan Mitchell added 20 points. All four Jazzmen that came in off the bench scored in double figures, led by Joe Ingles with 15 points. Georges Niang had 13 points, Emmanuel Mudiay dropped 12 and Jeff Green chipped in 11.

As a team, they set a franchise record, hitting 21 three-pointers in 45 attempts for 46 percent. Bogdanovic made 5 triples. Mitchell, Royce O’Neale, Green, Ingles and Niang each knocked down three 3-pointers and Mudiay made his only attempt from downtown.

Other than Antetokounmpo’s performance, the Jazz were hurt by turnovers, committing 16 miscues and they also allowed Milwaukee to score 58 points in the paint. The absence of Rudy Gobert was felt as the Jazz struggled on the defensive end in the second half. Gobert missed his second straight game with an ankle sprain that he suffered on Friday night in their win over the Golden State Warriors.

Tony Bradley started for the second time in his career. He recorded 8 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks in 23 minutes on the floor.

The Jazz dropped to 11-6 on the season. They will make the second stop on their current 5-game road trip on Wednesday when they face the Indiana Pacers. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet.
