SALT LAKE CITY – In light of Friday’s resolution passed by the Utah Legislature, the Utah Jazz will drop their mask mandate inside of Vivint Arena.

On January 7,  health executive director Dr. Angela Dunn instituted a mask mandate in Salt Lake County, but that directive was overturned by state officials short of the February 7 end date.

“Following today’s resolution approved by the Utah Legislature to overturn the mask mandate in Salt Lake and Summit counties, Vivint Arena will follow these COVID-19 health and safety protocols for all events,” the team announced ahead of Friday’s game against the Detroit Pistons.

The Jazz have not dropped their proof of vaccine or negative COVID test requirement to enter Vivint Arena which was instituted in October before the season began.

“As a community gathering place, we have a responsibility to protect our guests by putting health and safety standards in place,” said Jim Olson, president of Vivint Arena and the Jazz said in a release before the season opened.

Though fans are no longer faced with a mask mandate to enter the arena, the team recommended that they continue to be worn while indoors at Jazz games.

“Face coverings are no longer required for indoor events at Vivint Arena, effective immediately, for individuals age 12 and older,” the Jazz added in the release. “However, the use of masks remains a strongly recommended practice as an effective health and safety protocol for guests attending Jazz games, concerts and shows at Vivint Arena.”

The Jazz have two home games remaining in January before hosting a six-game homestand beginning February 2.
