SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Welcome to KSL Sports Game Night as the Utah Jazz host the Detroit Pistons.

The Jazz snapped their 11-game win streak on Sunday against the Nuggets thanks to an offensive explosion from the red-hot Denver roster.

The Pistons meanwhile had their schedule upended Monday night before facing the Nuggets after a positive COVID-19 test postponed the game. However, the test was later deemed a mistake and the Pistons were able to travel to Utah late last night.

Stayed tuned to this page throughout the night for updates from the coaches’ pregame, starting lineups, and highlights and thoughts throughout the game.

Coaches Availablity

The Jazz will have a big challenge slowing Pistons forward Jerami Grant who has nearly doubled his scoring average from last season with the Nuggets. Their best hope may be to match Grant’s output with a suddenly revamped Bojan Bogdanovic.

Jazz coach Quin Snyder said he hasn’t seen anything different from Bogdanovic over the last two games that have led to a 30.5 point per game average over the team’s last two outings.

“He’s missed so much time and you just keep playing and not overthink it,” Snyder said. “I just try to remember to remind him how good he is. And he’s really good.”

The Pistons are trying to regain their rhythm after last night’s postponement. Coach Dwane Casey said that’s part of the challenge of this season.

“The only thing that’s going to be common about this year is the inconsistency of the day,” Case said. “And yesterday was no different with the extra testing. Some inconclusive tests came back and out of an abundance of caution the league, they canceled the game which was the right thing to do.”

Starting Lineups

First Quarter

  • Good start for the Jazz up 12-2. They look like the same team that won 11 straight, knocking down threes, forcing tough shots, and getting deflections.
  • Good to see Donovan Mitchell back and playing well after a rough return against the Nuggets. He’s got 8 point son 3-4 shooting in the first 7 minutes.

  • Mitchell now up to 8 points, and the Jazz lead the Pistons 24-10. Something to watch in this game, apparently Mason Plumlee and Derrick Favors don’t like each other, so a good bit of beef for two good backup centers.
  • Quin Snyder was furious at the end of the first quarter after laying into the officials for missing what looked like a foul on a Jordan Clarkson three-point attempt.

Second Quarter

  • Bogdanovic seems to be fully in his groove. He’s shooting well and moving the ball with a comfort we haven’t seen this season.

  • The Jazz have found a unique ability this season to keep their foot on the gas pedal throughout a huge majority of the game. So even though Detroit’s 19 points through the first 8 minutes of the second quarter aren’t bad, the Jazz have scored 33 and build a 22 point lead.
  • That type of scoring ability doesn’t allow other teams to have lulls in their game and as soon as they blink the Jazz end the game.
  • Quick first half, Jazz up 69-46.

Third Quarter

  • Pistons have come out paying a little better on both ends of the floor and close the Jazz lead to 18.
  • 10-5 scoring run from Detroit, including an 8-1 run since Dwane Casey’s timeout 44 seconds into the half.

  • So the Pistons were playing well and cut the Jazz lead to 16, then have maybe the worst three possession stretch from a Jazz opponent this season to give up 8 points and the lead is back to 24.
  • First Derrick Favors three-point attempt of the season. Jazz really tried to add that to his game two and three seasons ago.
  • Nice close to the quarter for the Pistons who end up winning the third 31-25. Jazz still in good shape.

Fourth Quarter

  • The Jazz did not get the hot start to the fourth quarter they needed and the Pistons have trimmed the Jazz 28 point lead to just 13 with just under 10 minutes left in the game.

  • Pistons are going to challenge a call that looked like it was out on Conley, though it seemed like the refs gave the Jazz the ball because they didn’t call a foul on the play.
  • This is where review gets trick, the refs tried to give the Jazz a makeup call for a missed whistle, but with Pistons getting the ball now, the refs just underline that they made a mistake not calling a foul.
  • Back to back threes from Bojan Bogdanovic and the Jazz rebuild their lead to 10 with 48.6 left to play. Jazz lead the Pistons 115-105.
  • Bogdanovic up to 18 points on 5-11 shooting.
