SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz guard/forward Joe Ingles talked about his downtime after he got ejected against the Sacramento Kings on Friday night.

Joe Ingles joined The Zone Sports Network, powered by KSL Sports for his weekly show on Wednesday and talked about the play that led to him being ejected, what he did in the locker room and much more.

The Australian forward mentioned that he had never been ejected before in his career at any level. Early in the first half against the Kings, rookie guard Davion Mitchell was running the fastbreak when Ingles clipped him in midair, causing him to fall pretty hard on the floor. The officials reviewed the play and called a flagrant two foul on Ingles and he was ejected from the game.

“I guess I understand the reasoning behind it in terms of him being in the air,” said Ingles on his show. “Obviously, the fall didn’t look great. He was pretty high up. I’ve spoken to him and he was very well aware that it wasn’t on purpose and he was okay, which was the main thing of the concern. But yeah, I was trying to get out of his way. I saw he was lining up to try and dunk it that split second, I tried to kind of pull out and get out of the way and he kind of clipped the side of me and obviously had the fall. So I for sure thought it was going to be a flagrant one. I don’t know exactly what the words and terminology is, but I didn’t think it was that but obviously they made the call and it is what it is. We won the game and again, I wanted to make sure he was okay.”

What Joe Ingles Did After Being Ejected

Ingles was ejected late in the first quarter which meant that he had three quarters of downtime and he was on the road so he couldn’t really do much.

“Yeah, it’s extremely boring I can tell you that,” said Ingles “I walk back there and Rudy Gay was back there with him not playing at the moment. It definitely helped me realize even more that I don’t want to do any kind of video or scouting or anything because they’re watching the game and cutting up the film as it goes. We watch clips at halftime and sometimes after the game or guys want their clips on the plane to watch to the next city or whatever and they’re all sitting back there like coding the game and doing all that so it’s definitely a clear cut thing that I am not doing that when I retire. I had some food, I had a shower and watched the game. Renae (Joe’s wife) texted me and was like, ‘alright, I’m going to go to bed.”‘

The Jazz improved to 3-0 after their win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night. They will start a three-game road trip on Thursday, October 27 in Houston to face the Rockets at 6 p.m. MT on The Zone Sports Network and AT&T SportsNet.
