NBA, WNBA Selling Face Masks Featuring Team Logos, Including Utah Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NBA and WNBA partnered with sporting gear company Fanatics to sell cloth face coverings that feature teams including the Utah Jazz in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Logos from all 30 NBA teams as well as 12 WNBA teams are available.

“As a global community, we can all play a role in reducing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic by following the CDC’s recommendation to cover our nose and mouth while in public,” said NBA president for social responsibility and player programs Kathy Behrens. “Through this new product offering, NBA and WNBA fans can adhere to these guidelines while joining in the league’s efforts to aid those who have been directly affected by COVID-19.”

While the listings say that the coverings are “not a medical device. It is not intended to be personal protective equipment and should not be used by healthcare professionals or used in a healthcare/clinical environment or setting.”

In early April, the CDC recommended the use of cloth face coverings “in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.”

The two basketball leagues will donate proceeds from the sale of the face masks to Feeding America and Second Harvest.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has upended food bank operations causing shifts in distribution models and volunteer opportunities,” said Katie Fitzgerald, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Feeding America. “We are grateful to the NBA, WNBA, and Fanatics for this partnership that will support food banks with funds but also with much-needed face coverings to keep their staff, volunteers and neighbors in need safe.”

Utah Jazz Cloth Face Coverings

The NBA Store offers multiple designs featuring the Jazz Note logo. One design is a white base with the Jazz Note logo in the center of the face covering. The white Jazz face covering is sold individually.

Three other designs feature a blue background.

One of those blue background masks has the full Jazz wordmark logo on it. The next has a tile layout of small Jazz Note logos. The third has a blue background covering one half of the front while the other half is green. The two colors are split by a Jazz Note logo.

The blue background Jazz face coverings are sold in a pack of three masks.

The Jazz face masks are offered in both adult and youth sizes.

All team logo face coverings are now available to purchase online via the NBA Store and WNBA Store.

How Do I Prevent It?

The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:

• Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
• Avoid touching your face
• Stay home when you are sick
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

If you see evidence of PRICE GOUGING, the Utah Attorney General’s Office wants you to report it. Common items in question include toilet paper, water, hand sanitizer, certain household cleaners, and even cold medicine and baby formula. Authorities are asking anyone who sees price gouging to report it to the Utah Division of Consumer Protection at 801-530-6601 or 800-721-7233.
