SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake City Stars have announced their 2021-22 schedule.

The team will begin play on November 5 against the Oklahoma City Blue in Oklahoma and conclude on April 2 against the Stockton Kings in Salt Lake City.

Returning to a more traditional schedule, the season will feature 50 games, 24 of which will be played between Bruin Arena and Vivint Arena in Utah. The Stars home opener will be held on November 17 against the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Each of the 30 G League teams will also play an additional two games as a part of the Showcase Cup.

The Stars schedule includes a seven-game homestand beginning January 1 and concluding January 14 before returning to the road on January 16, while the G League All-Star break funs from February 18-22.

The team will travel to face the G League Ignite on December 13 and 15 in California. The Ignite aren’t affiliated with an NBA roster, but feature top prep prospects who opted to forgo college and pursue a professional basketball career.

Last season was upended by the COVID-19 pandemic which moved the G League to host a shortened 15 game season at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The Stars were one of 18 teams to attend, while players from the Dallas Mavericks organization were also featured on the Stars roster.

The Stars finished with the second-worst record in Orlando winning just four of their 15 games.

Stars To Compete In G League Tournament

The G League will feature a new format when the Stars retake the floor. The league will open play with each of its 30 teams playing 14 games as a part of the Showcase Cup.

The 30 teams have been split up into four regional divisions where each team will play 12 games. Teams will face off in back-to-back matchups to limit travel requirements, and the teams with the best winning percentage in each region will get automatic bids to compete for the Showcase Cup.

Additionally, the next four best teams across the league determined by winning percentage will also advance to compete for the Cup. Those eight teams will then participate in a single-elimination tournament to determine the winner of the G League’s season-opening tournament at the Winter Showcase.

The teams that did not qualify for the Showcase Cup will play two additional games outside of the event.

The Stars won the initial Showcase Cup in 2019 before the 19-20 season was suspended due to the pandemic.

The G League Ignite and the expansion Mexico City Capitanes will compete in the 12 game season-opening tournament, but will not play in the 36 game regular season.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams from each conference will advance to the G League playoffs.
