Utah Jazz Have Unanswered Questions Still Lingering

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz will host media day on September 29, leaving just one week to tie up their offseason loose ends.
Rosters don’t have to be finalized until the opening night of the regular season, but the Jazz may prefer to have some team business finished before opening training camp at the end of the month.

Utah Jazz Have Unanswered Offseason Questions
With only a few days left of the offseason, and most of the players on the roster already in Utah preparing for camp, the most pressing question for the Jazz is the status of Kevin Love.
The Jazz acquired Love in the three-team trade that sent John Collins to the Los Angeles Clippers, though the veteran forward is unlikely to suit up in Utah.

Soon after the trade, reports emerged that Love would prefer to play in a major market during the twilight years of his Hall of Fame career.
If Love had a preferred landing spot already worked out, it’s likely a buyout would have been completed, but there has been no reported movement on that front since the July trade.
The Jazz don’t have to buy out Love’s contract, and the two sides can continue to pursue their options through training camp and the regular season. However, Love would occupy one of the Jazz’s 15 guaranteed roster spots as long as he remains under contract with the team, limiting their flexibility.
What To Do With KJ Martin?
Coinciding with Kevin Love’s status in Utah is KJ Martin’s non-guaranteed contract with the Jazz.
As currently constituted, the Jazz have 15 players on guaranteed contracts, the maximum they can carry into the opening night of the regular season, excluding Martin’s deal.
Teams can carry more than the 15-player maximum during training camp, giving the Jazz another month before they have to find a solution to the current roster crunch.
The Jazz acquired Martin at last year’s trade deadline, though the forward played sparingly to close the season.
Mo Bamba Seen With Jazz
Though he hasn’t signed with the Jazz in any official capacity, veteran free agent center Mo Bamba was on a recent hike with the team, stirring speculation that he could join the roster in training camp.
The Jazz acquired Bamba from the Los Angeles Clippers in February, but waived the former lottery pick before he ever suited up with the team.

The 27-year-old played four games in New Orleans after signing a 10-day contract in March, but hasn’t found a new home this summer.
While Bamba’s presence on the team excursion is no guarantee that he’ll be on the opening night roster, it’s a reminder that the Jazz could choose to buy out Love and waive Martin should they prefer to fill their final roster spot with a different free agent.
The Jazz have yet to announce their training camp roster.
