SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In hopes of bouncing back from their previous loss to the Golden State Warriors, the Utah Jazz couldn’t get past the Memphis Grizzlies. They fell 92-84 at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Jae Crowder led the Jazz with 15 points and 8 rebounds off the bench, Donovan Mitchell added 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field. Rudy Gobert put up another double-double performance as he scored 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

The leader for the Memphis Grizzlies was Mike Conley with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Marc Gasol chipped in 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Trouble Shooting Threes

Both teams had a tough time hitting from behind-the-arc. The Jazz hit 8 three’s out of 32 attempts, and Memphis nailed 9-of-28 from downtown.

The shots were falling for the Jazz against the Warriors, they made 19-of-46 from three.

Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder talked about why his team struggled shooting from the field against Memphis.

“The substance of this team is the fact that we move the ball and work together to get good shots and we didn’t do that tonight,” he said. “Consistently we didn’t move the ball like we need to, we can’t play that way,” Snyder added.

Grayson Allen Makes Debut

The rookie from Duke saw his first NBA action as Coach Snyder was looking for someone to provide a boost to get the Jazz back into the game. They trailed 62-54 with 2:58 left in the third period when Allen entered the game.

“We were looking for a spark,” said Snyder when asked why he put Allen in the game.

Allen played 11 minutes and scored 7 points, he made both of his shot attempts including one three-pointer.

Donovan Mitchell Struggling

The second year pro might be hitting his sophomore slump to start the season. Mitchell ended with 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field and was 0-for-7 in the fourth quarter.

“They (Memphis) took us out of what we wanted to do and that can’t happen,” said Mitchell after the game.

In the three games to start the season, Mitchell has made three shots in 21 attempts in the fourth quarter.

The Jazz have lost two straight and are 1-2 on the season. They will hit the road for four games, beginning in Houston on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

“We are going to take this one on the chin and go on the road, and hopefully do some damage,” said Donovan Mitchell.
