SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz dropped their 19th straight road game, falling to the Indiana Pacers 140-112.

The Jazz trailed by just four points heading into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 42-18 in the final frame.

Collin Sexton led the Jazz with 27 points while Myles Turner led Indiana with 26.

Pacers Crush Jazz With Fast Break Points

In a battle of high-paced offenses, the shorthanded Jazz were no match for the Pacers.

Despite only turning the ball over 13 times, the Jazz were outscored 29-8 on fastbreak points, leading to a 62-40 disadvantage on points in the paint.

“Some people will say, ‘Oh, you guys only had 13 turnovers,’ but in my opinion, we had 30 turnovers because those blocked shots lead to run outs and put you at a real disadvantage,” Jazz coach Will Hardy said.

The Pacers blocked a staggering 17 Jazz field goal attempts, tied for the most ever by a Utah opponent.

“With all the three-point shooting and the pace, it can it can make things look worse than they actually are,” Hardy said. “But I also told the team that the reality is, nothing changes, if nothing changes — you have to dig in.”

Kyle Filipowski Has Gone Cold

After emerging as one of the Jazz’s best three-point shooters over the second half of the season, rookie Kyle Filipowski has gone cold.

Filipowski shot a blistering 47 percent on 100 three-point attempts between February 1 and March 25, but hasn’t been able to find the bottom of the net over his last five outings.

Including his 0-6 performance against the Pacers, Filipowski is just 4-31 from downtown since March 27, an icy 13 percent.

Despite his struggles, the Jazz coaching staff isn’t concerned.

“Part of the reason that he hasn’t shot great, he’s getting guarded way differently,” Hardy said. “He’s earned the respect of our opponents with his shooting, and so now it’s about making some little adjustments to counteract that.”

Filipowski has been a full-time feature in the Jazz’s starting lineups over their last seven games, moving him up the scouting report for opposing defenses.

“We went through a stretch there earlier in the year where teams were sort of letting him shoot, and he’s proven that he can make open catch and shoots now,” Hardy added.

That’s left the rookie playing against better players, who are more prepared for his style of play.

“The closeouts and the contests are coming at a different rate than they were a month ago,” Hardy concluded. “So I’m not concerned. I’m actually really encouraged with Kyle’s growth this year.”

Taylor Hendricks Hopes To Be Back On Court By May

During Friday’s game, injured Jazz forward Taylor Hendricks sat down with broadcasters Craig Bolerjack and Thurl Bailey to discuss his rehabilitation progress after suffering a devastating leg injury in the third game of the season.

“By May, I should be — I’ll be 100 percent,” Hendricks said. “But you know, the way I’m feeling, I think I’ll be ready way before then. But, we’re just following the schedule right now.”

Despite his optimism, the Jazz clarified that Hendricks should be cleared to begin basketball activities, though he’s not expected to be available for the team’s summer league appearances.

Hendricks, who looks noticeably bigger since suffering the injury, offered some insight on this physical transformation, having climbed from 215 pounds when he entered the draft to 243 pounds.

“I’m gonna slim down a little bit, but hopefully I’ll be able to play around 232-235 [pounds], around there,” Hendricks added. “That would be huge.”

In 43 career games with the Jazz, the former lottery pick has averaged 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three.
