BYU basketball is back on the road for a Top 25 showdown against No. 10 Iowa State in Hilton Coliseum.

While Houston has already settled the Big 12 regular season championship, there’s still seeding to sort out for next week’s conference tournament in Kansas City.

Seeding is on the line for BYU basketball against Iowa State

The BYU/Iowa State winner has an excellent opportunity to earn a double-bye and the No. 4 seed in next week’s tournament.

Plus, it’s a game that can help enhance the resumes and potential seed lines for both teams in the NCAA Tournament. It’s a Quad One game for BYU and Iowa State.

Despite all of those forecasts toward the postseason, first-year BYU head coach Kevin Young keeps his team focused on taking on the Cyclones.

“I know I say this a lot, and I mean it; we really do take it day-by-day and game by game,” Young told reporters on Zoom. “I understand that there are bigger pictures out there. But I think I’ve found every team is different. Some teams need all of that crystal ball stuff. Other teams are better when they just focus on what’s right in front of them. That seems to be the case with this group.”

BYU comes into the matchup against Iowa State on a six-game winning streak. The Cougars have the No. 1 adjusted efficiency offense during Big 12 play in KenPom’s ratings.

BYU star Richie Saunders has earned the Big 12 Player of the Award in consecutive weeks.

Iowa State is at full strength

After months of having players in and out of the lineup due to injuries, Iowa State appears to be at full strength heading into the matchup with BYU.

The Cyclones have only lost once this season with their full collection of personnel, which was against the No. 1 team in the country, Auburn, at Maui in November.

Series history

Tuesday night will be the ninth meeting all-time between the Big 12 programs. Iowa State leads the all-time series against BYU 7-1.

They split the season series last year, with both teams protecting their home floor.

Last year’s meeting in Ames saw BYU go scoreless for the final four minutes, allowing the Cyclones to close out the game on a 7-0 run for a 68-63 victory.

“We have to go in there with the mindset that no matter what they do, we’re going to be under control offensively,” Kevin Young said.

Iowa State has the nation’s No. 9 adjusted efficiency defense in the KenPom ratings. They are No. 2 in Big 12 play.

Tuesday will serve as Iowa State’s senior night. The Cyclones also have an initiative for ISU fans to “Stripe Hilton” in cardinal and gold colors.
