Two More BYU Football Players Enter NCAA Transfer Portal

PROVO, Utah – The transfer portal activity continues, and BYU football is not immune to the movement.
Two more players, quarterback Noah Lugo and defensive end David Latu, announced their intentions to enter the portal.
QB Noah Lugo enters the Transfer Portal
BYU football true freshman quarterback Noah Lugo announced he is entering the portal.
“Thank you [sic] BYU football and Coach Kalani and Coach Roderick for allowing me to be a Cougar, with that being said I have entered the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility!!”
The former record-setting signal-caller at Eaton High School in Haslet, Texas, signed with BYU in the class of 2024. He was an early enrollee and spent the entire year with the program.
BYU’s staff viewed Lugo as a developmental quarterback this past season. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect didn’t appear in any games during his one year at BYU.
Before signing with BYU out of high school, Lugo was committed to UTSA. He wanted to sign with BYU to be part of the Big 12 Conference.
BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick said earlier this month that he would like to have four quarterbacks on the 105-man roster next season. Jake Retzlaff, Treyson Bourguet, McCae Hillstead, and Cole Hagen are the players on the current roster with remaining eligibility for the 2025 season.
DT David Latu is on the move

“I want to thank the whole program and the university from the bottom of my heart. I want to thank Coach Kalani, Coach Hill, Coach Ena, Coach Pop, and most of all Coach Po’uha and the rest of the staff for taking a chance on me,” wrote Latu.
“I wouldn’t be the person I am today without this program. I want to thank the strength staff, admin, 3rd floor, and support staff for everything they did for me. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to play for Brigham Young University.”
As a JUCO transfer, Latu was expected to make an immediate impact. However, in his first season with the program, he didn’t arrive at fall camp until midway through practices. Then, in 2024, he was navigating injuries.
Coming out of Snow College, Latu was a Second-Team JUCO All-American at defensive tackle.
The interior of BYU’s defensive line will be a focus in 2025. John Taumoepeau, Luke To’omalatai, and Joshua Singh are projected to return in 2025. They could also move Sani Tuala from the defensive end to the interior.
The NCAA Transfer Portal is open until Saturday, December 28.
