PROVO – Since BYU football joined the Big 12 Conference, the program has hosted an annual golf event for the local media.
On Thursday, the fourth BYU Football Media Golf Classic took place.
Previously, the event has been held at Cedar Hills Golf Club in late June. This year, it was moved down the street from LaVell Edwards Stadium at Timpanogos Golf Club, formerly East Bay.
Fourth annual BYU football media golf classic
It’s the last offseason event before the 2026 season unofficially kicks off next week with the start of fall camp next Wednesday.

Some of the BYU players, offensive tackle Andrew Gentry, safety Raider Damuni, Cal transfer linebacker Cade Uluave, and offensive lineman Sonny Makasini, hit the links and participated in the rounds of golf.
The top foursome of the day was our own KSL Sports Zone team featuring Patrick Kinahan and Jake Hatch with a score of 15-under.
My foursome with the Cougar Sports Saturday team on KSL NewsRadio finished tied for second with a 12-under.
While I buried a 30-foot Eagle putt from the fringe on hole No. 10, my highlight of the day, and Cougar Sports Saturday co-host Nate Slack knocked down multiple putts in a nonchalant fashion, the team was carried by Parker Brown and Ty Hilton.
On hole No. 9, BYU football Passing Game Coordinator Fesi Sitake was in the distance at hole No. 2 watching our tee shots.
He was surprised with our final 12-under score after witnessing my brutal, pressure-filled tee shot with Fesi, an excellent golfer, head coach Kalani Sitake, defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga, and defensive passing game coordinator Demario Warren watching.
Speaking of Demario Warren, the first-year safeties coach won closest to the pin on hole No. 12, earning a pair of Jordan brand golf shoes.
The highlight from my round was on hole No. 2, where I had a green-in-regulation tee shot with BYU Athletics Director Brian Santiago on hand to watch in the teebox.
It was a strong outing from the Cougar Sports Saturday team.
Notes around the course
The KSL 5 TV foursome featuring Jeremiah Jensen and Sam Farnsworth finished eight-under. Farnsworth also won a dozen balls in a drawing following the round of golf, while the media enjoyed the Tucano’s press box meal to ramp up for the season.
BYU Sports Network sideline reporter and former BYU football wide receiver Mitchell Juergens had the longest drive on hole number 16, passing BYU Sports Network spotter Jake Murphy.
Other long drives on hole number 16 included KSL’s Travis Hodson and Fesi Sitake.
In what has become a tradition at the event, the last place foursome received a pack of pickleballs. This year’s last place quartet was from KUTV.
Following the golf and awards, players and coaches spoke to the media in preparation for the upcoming season.
