BYU Star Chase Roberts Hosting ‘Football And Faith’ Camps

HURRICANE, Utah BYU football wide receiver Chase Roberts wants to help young athletes develop on and off the field.

Roberts, the No. 1 receiver in BYU’s offense the past two seasons, will host summer camps in St. George the next two weekends.

Chase Roberts is hosting “Build Power Football Camps” at Utah Prep

The camps are called “Build Power Camp.” Roberts will host them at Utah Prep in Hurricane, the same school that produced BYU basketball freshmen AJ Dybantsa and Xavion Staton. The official website of the camp notes that the focus of the camps will be on “integrating spiritual growth, personal accountability, and athletic excellence.”

Young men between the ages of 14 and 18 are eligible to sign up for the camp.

The first camp will occur this weekend, May 23-25, followed by another from May 30 to June 1. Each camp will have a maximum of 50 athletes. Signups are still available for athletes of all positions at UtahPrep.com/camps.

The UtahPrep.com website notes the cost at $300 for one individual or $500 for two relatives.

Roberts announced the camp at Utah Prep in March at a ceremony that included AJ Dybantsa’s recognition as a McDonald’s All-American.

BYU football players will be trainers

BYU star quarterback Jake Retzlaff, wide receivers Parker Kingston and Cody Hagen, and safety Tanner Wall will join Roberts as trainers at the camp.

On the surface, it would seem like a traditional football camp, but Roberts, a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who served a mission in Canada (2019-2021), wants the experience to give young people a chance to improve as football players and, as he puts it, to become better disciples of Jesus Christ.

“It’s not just football. Three days of reading the scriptures, getting into more spiritual stuff as well, and just building young men into men,” Roberts said to KSL Sports. “That’s the ultimate reason why we’re doing this. It’s going to be fun.”
