BYU DB Ends ECU Drive With End Zone Interception

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – The BYU Cougars’ defense continues to be the only FBS team in the country that hasn’t allowed a touchdown in 2025 after Evan Johnson picked off an East Carolina pass in the end zone, ending a long drive for the Pirates.
The Cougars are in North Carolina for a bout with the ECU Pirates on Saturday, September 20.

East Carolina was knocking on the door following a 14-play, 69-yard drive. It was the Pirates’ best possession of the night, by far, but ended with the first turnover for either team.
On 2nd-and-Goal from the six, Katin Houser lofted a pass that Johnson snared to end the drive. Johnson returned the pick to the Cougar 11-yard line.
It was the third INT of Johnson’s career and first this season.
BYU has 179 yards of offense compared to 153 for the Pirates in a defensive battle. Cougar running back LJ Martin has struggled following some long runs on the first drive of the night for the Cougars.
True freshman QB Bear Bachmeier is 9-of-14 for 126 yards.
