Evan Johnson Gives BYU Halftime Momentum With Pick-Six

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – BYU DB Evan Johnson was a one-man wrecking crew for the BYU Cougar defense to end the first half against East Carolina.
Johnson ended the Pirates’ best drive of the night with an interception in the end zone with under five minutes to play. He was only warming up.

BYU was forced to punt on the following drive, but a muff forced East Carolina to begin the drive from the one-yard line.
Katin Houser dropped back and threw a pass that was targeted for the far sideline. Instead, Johnson stepped in front and trotted into the end zone to give his team a 13-3 lead.
BYU has 187 yards of offense, including 126 passing yards. LJ Martin has been limited to 45 yards on nine carries despite two long early runs.
East Carolina has 168 yards of offense.
Both teams are averaging less than four yards per carry on the ground.
