The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Mason picked BYU over the Pac-12’s Boise State and San Diego State, along with the hometown UNLV Rebels from the Mountain West Conference.
BYU jumped into the mix for Mason at the end of April with an offer, and the Cougars made Mason a priority in their recruiting efforts at safety. Mason is the second safety to commit to BYU this week, joining Antonio Johnson from Fort Worth, Texas.
One of the top prospects in Nevada
The three-star prospect is rated by 247Sports as the seventh-best recruit out of Nevada in the 2026 cycle.
Over the past two seasons for Faith Lutheran High, Mason has been a tackling machine, recording 206 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and two sacks.
It’s the second consecutive recruiting cycle where BYU has landed a player from Faith Lutheran High School.
Mason’s commitment follows an official visit to Provo. He joins Antonio Johnson and Parker Ord as previously uncommitted prospects who gave verbal commitments to the BYU program.
Mason has a track and field background where he has run a personal-best 11.42 seconds in the 100 meters. He also reports a 4.45 laser 40-yard dash.
The addition of Mason brings BYU up to 12 commitments in the class of 2026.
BYU currently has the 52nd-ranked class in the 247Sports rankings.
