One day before his announcement, he went to Instagram and shared photos from his BYU football official visit in Provo.

The pictures featured Lyons in a No. 3 jersey, the same number he has worn throughout his football career. He was also sporting a BYU towel, which he has worn in games at times during his career at Folsom High School in California.
Lyons will announce his commitment on June 24. Along with BYU, Oregon, USC, Ohio State, and Ole Miss are viewed as some of the top contenders for the five-star prospect.
He only took official visits to Oregon, followed by BYU last week.
In the Instagram comments on Lyons’ post, current and former BYU players chimed in, looking to lure the blue-chip prospect to Provo.
Current BYU cornerback Therrian “Tre” Alexander wrote, “See you soon.”
Former BYU wide receiver Darius Lassiter wrote, “Come home QB1!”
Lyons was the headliner of an official visit weekend that also included Orem High wide receiver Kaue Akana.
Lyons and Akana were teammates in 7-on-7 football with Overtime Elite’s Cold Hearts. During their visit, the quarterback and receiver collaborated on a TikTok video inside the LaVell Edwards Stadium locker room.
The video has over one million views on TikTok.

Five-star prospect in the 2026 class
247Sports National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman told the KSL Sports Zone’s “DJ & PK” last week that he sees Lyons as the best quarterback in the country.
“I’ve said for two years that I think he’s the best quarterback in the country. I know he’s a top-five quarterback nationally. He’s the number one player in California. For my money, I will take him as the best quarterback in the country,” Huffman said to the KSL Sports Zone.
Lyons won the Gatorade Player of the Year in California as a junior last season. He accounted for 60 touchdowns, with 46 coming through the air and another 14 on the ground from the dual-threat standout.
BYU football could make a splash if it lands Ryder Lyons
If BYU were to land a commitment from Lyons, he would be the third-highest prospect the Cougars have landed since 2000. Lyons has a 247Sports Composite score of 0.9901 out of 1.000.
Only former Thousand Oaks, California, quarterback Ben Olson from the 2002 recruiting class and offensive lineman Ofa Mohetau out of Euless, Texas, in the 2003 cycle would have higher composite scores than Lyons.
