Earliest home game in two years for BYU
It’s the earliest kickoff for a BYU home football game since the Cougars hosted the Oklahoma Sooners on Senior Day in 2023.
Like the game against the Sooners two years ago, Saturday’s matchup with the Knights will also serve as Senior Day.
BYU enters the matchup with UCF at 10-1 overall after knocking off the Cincinnati Bearcats at Nippert Stadium last night. A win for BYU punches their ticket to the Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington, Texas.
Meanwhile, UCF comes into the game with a 5-6 record. The Knights need to pull off the upset against BYU to extend their season and punch a ticket to a Bowl Game in head coach Scott Frost’s first season.
BYU is currently ranked No. 11 in the College Football Playoff committee’s Top 25 rankings. That ranking would keep the Cougars outside of the College Football Playoff. So the matchup between BYU and UCF has Playoff implications on the line.
It’s the first time since 2011 that UCF is traveling to Provo. BYU has a 3-1 series lead over the Knights. All four of the previous meetings have occurred since that first meeting in Provo in 2011, when BYU was an FBS Independent and UCF was in Conference USA.
The two programs joined the Big 12 Conference in 2023. BYU and UCF met last season in Orlando, a game that BYU won, 37-24, at the Bounce House.
