Bushman, Fotheringham Headline Mackey Award Watch List

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU junior tight end Matt Bushman was named to the 2019 Mackey Award watch list, given annually to college football’s most outstanding tight end.
Bushman has led the Cougars in receiving yards the past two seasons. In 2018 he made 29 receptions for 511 yards while averaging 17.6 yards per reception – the top average per catch among FBS tight ends. During his freshman year, he led all FBS Division I freshman tight ends with 49 receptions and 520 yards en route to earning multiple freshman All-American awards.
Hailing from Tuscon, Arizona, Bushman is considered the best tight end since Dennis Pitta left the BYU program in 2009.

University of Utah’s sophomore tight end Cole Fotheringham is also a member of the Mackey Award watch list. The San Clemente native started in nine games last season gaining 17 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
Fotheringham is not the only tight end on Utah’s roster that has shown promise. Sophomore Brant Kuithe led the tight ends with 227 yards, averaging 11.4 yards per reception and one touchdown on the year. Between Fotheringham and Kuithe, Utah seems stacked at tight end in 2019.

The Mackey Award will be presented live on December 12, 2019 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
