PROVO, Utah – BYU football hosts Idaho State today for the final home game of the 2021 season. Today’s game is an opportunity for BYU seniors to play their last game at LaVell Edwards Stadium and it’s also a chance for the Cougars to honor military members as Veterans Day is next week.
BYU’s Director of Player Experience and Equipment Operations, Billy Nixon, unveiled some unique military appreciation gear players and coaches will be wearing against Idaho State to pay tribute to the upcoming Veterans Day holiday.

BYU Football Military Appreciation Gear
When BYU players get dressed in their warmup attire at LaVell Edwards Stadium, they’ll have pregame camo jackets with a royal blue stretch Y logo on the front waiting for them in their lockers. In addition, members of the BYU coaching staff will have Dri-Fit short-sleeve collar shirts and a crewneck with camo patterns.
Online fan retailer Fanatics has some Nike branded camo BYU apparel for fans to purchase, but it’s none of the apparel “drip” that Nixon is rolling out for the 15th ranked Cougars.
Earlier this season, Nixon and his equipment team rolled out special Cotton Bowl apparel to pay tribute to the 14-1 1996 team during BYU’s win against Arizona State.
BYU takes on Idaho State at 1:30 p.m. later today. The Cougars come into the game with a 7-2 record, riding high after a 66-49 win over Virginia a week ago.

“Midnight Virgil”
BYU will debut their “Midnight Virgil” uniform combination to go along with the Military Appreciation apparel.
The midnight threads will feature a navy blue jersey with white pants and a navy blue helmet with a gray facemask. A gray facemask is a tip of the cap to the 1960s when All-American quarterback Virgil Carter was the signal-caller for the Cougars. During that time, BYU had a royal helmet that consisted of a gray facemask.
BYU has 26 different uniform combinations in their uniform identity for the 2021 season.
