BYU Football Team Completes Picture Day As First Scrimmage Looms

PROVO, Utah – Hey, BYU football team, smile for the camera.
That’s what the Cougars did on Wednesday after practice. The 2022 team took part in photo day at the Indoor Practice Facility.
Everyone on the team, from star quarterback Jaren Hall to walk-on freshmen, was in attendance for the various photo opportunities. The entire team gathered for a team portrait on metal bleachers. Coaches wore light gray Nike polos that featured a navy blue Oval Y on the right side.

Offensive and special teams players wore royal blue uniforms with white pants that featured royal blue stripes. Defensive players donned a white uniform with royal blue numbers and pants.
The team picture day marks a week since players reported to camp last Wednesday.
“I’ve been really pleased considering the install that we had on all three phases putting in our offense, defense, and special teams. We’re moving along really well,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said on Wednesday.
No viral moments at BYU football picture day
There were no viral social media moments from this year’s picture day. However, in years past, this event featured the unveiling of the Tradition, Spirit, Honor uniforms that Bronco Mendenhall showed his players in 2013. Then in 2017, a viral photo opportunity emerged of 6-foot-7, 400-pound Motekiai Langi standing next to 5-foot-8 Michael Shelton.
None of that was on display. Along with taking headshots in uniforms, typically used for TV broadcasts, players also took headshots in shirts and ties. Those generally are used on BYU’s official website.

Coming up this Saturday, BYU football will have its first scrimmage of camp. With such an experienced team, there aren’t many position battles entering the closed scrimmage at LaVell Edwards Stadium. But some areas that Sitake is looking to shore up the top five along the offensive line and then identify the personnel packages on defense.
Sitake believes he has more than 11 players capable of starting on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
