BYU’s Oldroyd Named Lou Groza Award Star Of The Week

PROVO, Utah – BYU kicker Jake Oldroyd was named as one of the Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week following his performance in Week 3.
The BYU kicker was honored by the Lou Groza Award as one of the best specialists in the college football in the third week of the season. The Lou Groza Award is given to the nation’s best collegiate kicker at the conclusion of the season.
Oldroyd hit the game-winning field goal for the Cougars during the overtime period of their upset of 24th ranked USC on Saturday, September 14.

He made three of the four field goals he attempted against the Trojans. His only miss was a kick that went wide right from 44 yards out.
The Palm Beach County Sports Commission Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award was impressed with Oldroyd’s performance against a Power 5 opponent on national TV.
“BYU freshman Jake Oldroyd stood tall under pressure and split the uprights from 43 yards away to lift the Cougars to a 30-27 overtime upset over #24 USC in Provo, Utah on Saturday. The Southlake, Texas native also kicked field goals of 32 and 23 yards, his second straight week with three makes and also the second straight week BYU knocked off a Power 5 school by just three points. The Award also recognized Iowa’s Keith Duncan and Cal’s Greg Thomas as Stars of the Week.
The kicker has made eight of his nine field-goal attempts this season. Oldroyd has also been perfect on PATs in 2019.

BYU’s next game is against the 23rd ranked Washington Huskies.
The Cougars host UW on Saturday, September 21 at 1:30 p.m. (MDT). The game will be on KSL NewsRadio 1160 AM and 102.7 FM.
