Chase Roberts Stepping Into Leadership Role For BYU Football In 2025

FRISCO, Texas – BYU football wide receiver Chase Roberts is in Texas to represent the Cougars at Big 12 Media Days, setting the stage for the second year of a 16-team league.
The 2025 Big 12 Football Media Days is held at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys’ headquarters, on July 8 and 9.
“You’ve got to know what’s needed on the team,” the senior wideout said. “I think for the offense especially, being able to speak up more so that guys are in the right positions.”

The departure of Jake Retzlaff as the leader of the offense has forced Roberts to be a more vocal leader than he has been in years past.
“The quarterback may be a more inexperienced guy,” Roberts stated. “We need the whole team to make sure everyone’s on board. To step up and to get everyone’s confidence so that we go down and score and win a lot of games.”
Chase Roberts earns preseason All-Big 12
The 6’4, 210-pound wideout continued his steady upward trajectory last season. He set career-highs in catches (52), yards (854), and yards per catch (16.4) as a junior, leading the team in all three categories.
“I just want to keep doing what I’m doing,” Roberts said. “The things that I can improve on. That I’ve been told by scouts I can improve on., Then just win a lot of games. I think that’s the best thing you can do for your draft stock.”

Roberts was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team by College Football Network and Phil Steele after notching four games with 100+ receiving yards.
Roberts started all 13 games as a team captain.
He has played 28 games in his college career and totaled 85 receptions for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last season, BYU finished with an 11-2 record and a 7-2 conference record. Utah was the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 during its first year, but ended up finishing 5-7 overall and 2-7 in league games.
