Cougars Show Positive Energy On Day One Of Camp Kalani

PROVO, Utah – The BYU Cougars came out for their first day of fall camp ready and focused.

It makes sense. The mantra for fall camp is continuing with the same intensity they had during player-run-practices over the summer, and continuing the momentum they finished with last season in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

“It’s pretty evident in the way they looked and the way they’re executing that we made a huge step forward with PRP’s,” said Head Coach Kalani Sitake. “A lot of players took ownership of the team and we saw some really good things today.”

“Every team on the first day, great energy and great passion,” said Assistant Head Coach Ed Lamb. “The guys showed today they were excited to be here. They’ve been competing against each other all summer.”

And even though they’ve been battling all summer, the Cougars kept a positive energy during their first practice.

“There was no jawing, there was no post-snap fighting, there were no swings taken,” Lamb added.

Buying In During Summer Workouts

Quarterback Zach Wilson said the team is bought in and ready for the 2019 season.

“The receivers, our O-line, running backs, they all bought in,” said Wilson. “I know those guys are taking it personal for how good they want to be.”

Wilson said the extra work his teammates put in over the summer showed on the field.

“I know a lot of them took big strides this summer,” added Wilson. “A lot of them did extra and it shows when they’re out here balling out.”

“There was a lot of effort during the summer,” added linebacker Zayne Anderson. “Everyone feels faster, everyone feels stronger.”

The coaches hope is that the teams will continue the positive energy throughout fall camp and into the opener against Utah which is just 29 days away.

“Today it was great to see positive energy back and forth and at the same time see great effort,” said Lamb.
