BYU QB Jaren Hall Already Has An Elite NFL Attribute

PROVO, Utah – BYU’s Jaren Hall is putting together an impressive season.

The fifth-year junior, who is already on the Senior Bowl watch list for the 2023 NFL draft, has passed for 1,438 yards this season. That’s good for 18th nationally in college football through five weeks. He’s also completed 70% of his 171 pass attempts.

But the most impressive stat so far for Hall is his ball security. Through five games in 2022, Hall has thrown only one interception. For the past four weeks, Hall and the entire BYU offense have not coughed up the football to opponents.

That ball security is catching the attention of important people around the NFL.

“Every NFL scout I’ve talked to about Jaren says his best quality is how well he takes care of the football,” said BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick on Coordinators’ Corner. “You watch NFL games [on Sunday] and interceptions, fumbles, those are the turning points in those NFL games. And the margin of victory is so small in that league. They are looking for guys who can take care of the ball, and everyone mentions it about him.”

Over the course of Jaren Hall’s career at BYU, which includes 22 games, he’s only thrown six interceptions. He’s passed for 33 touchdowns in his BYU career, and he doesn’t appear to be slowing down this season as he continues to climb up NFL draft boards.

“I feel like that’s something I’ve had to kind of learn the older I’ve gotten is there’s a time and a place,” Hall said to UnRivaled on the KSL Sports Zone when asked if he wants to open things up more through the passing game. “There’s a lot of opportunities that a lot of quarterbacks feel pressured or when things aren’t going well feel like they need to start doing stuff. And luckily, I have a lot of mentors around me and coaches that have talked me through those situations and just remind me to just play within myself.”

Hall continues to play “next-level football”

During last week’s Thursday night win over Utah State, 13 NFL scouts were on hand to see BYU secure a win over the Aggies. Many of the scouts in attendance were likely keeping close tabs on Hall.

ESPN football analyst Louis Riddick watched Hall closely during the nationally televised broadcast. The former Pitt Panther and Oakland Raider came away impressed with Hall, saying he’s “playing next-level football right now.”

There would be no time better for Hall to continue playing “next-level football” than this week. BYU takes on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a network televised game in an NFL venue in Las Vegas. A big game against the Irish could continue to catapult Hall up draft boards even higher.
