Student Buries Half-Court Shot For $8K During Timeout Of Gonzaga/BYU Game

PROVO, Utah – One very lucky BYU student received eight thousand dollars after burying a half-court shot during a timeout of the game between the Cougars and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The Cougars hosted the Bulldogs at the Marriott Center on Saturday, February 22.
With BYU up 38-32 late in the first half, an official TV timeout took place after Cougars forward Yoeli Childs committed a foul.
During the stoppage, a BYU student took part in a half-court shot contest. The student ran up to the line at mid-court and sailed a shot through the air.

The student’s heave towards the hoops fell right through the cylinder.

After burying the basket, he ran towards BYU’s student section, the ROC, and jumped into the crowd of fellow students. The reward for the big-time bucket was eight thousand dollars.

After the Cougars returned to action against the Zags, they stretched their lead to 46-38 at the halftime break.
BYU was led by Childs’ 15 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal during the first 20 minutes of game time.
Fellow Cougar starter TJ Haws poured in 11 points in the first half. Haws added 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal before halftime.
The Cougars finished the opening half shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from three.

Gonzaga shot 45.8 percent overall and 36.4 percent from distance during the first 20 minutes.
The Bulldogs were carried by Filip Petrusev’s 10 points.
The Gonzaga vs. BYU game is broadcast on KSL News Radio 1160 AM and 102.7 FM. The game is televised on ESPN2.
