PROVO, Utah – BYU running back Ty’Son Williams has completed surgery on the torn ACL in his left knee.

Williams suffered the injury to his ACL last month in the loss against the Washington Huskies. That injury ended his 2019 season.

On Tuesday, Williams shared on his personal social media accounts that surgery on his knee was successful. Williams also went on to thank everyone for their love and prayers.

Surgery was successful✅. Thank you for the love and prayers 🙏🏿. #RoadtoRecovery

Family, teammates, and fans of Williams wished their best in recovery including BYU quarterback Zach Wilson who said on Instagram, “Gonna be back better than before.”

Despite missing the Cougars last three games, Williams is still BYU’s leading rusher through seven games of the season. A graduate transfer from the University of South Carolina, Williams rushed for 264 yards and also had 47 receiving yards in four games played for BYU.

With the injury forcing Williams to miss two-thirds of his final collegiate season, Williams could apply for a hardship waiver from the NCAA for another year of eligibility. If not granted a hardship waiver from the NCAA, Williams’ collegiate career would be over.

No specific timeline has publicly been given for when Williams will be able to return to football, but it’s possible Williams could miss the entire pre-NFL Draft process (Combine, Pro Day, team workouts) because of this ACL injury.

This past summer, Williams was listed as a “prospect to watch” for the Senior Bowl by the Senior Bowl’s Executive Director Jim Nagy. Which is notable because it likely signaled that Williams was on the radar for NFL teams and scouts to evaluate.

Since being sidelined with an injury, Williams has remained close to the BYU football team and has attended games, including last Saturday’s win over nationally-ranked Boise State in Provo.

Williams is currently a student in BYU’s School of Communications Graduate Program. After his football career is over, Williams has expressed a desire to be a broadcaster and work in the media.
