Report: Oklahoma State Football Fires Head Coach Mike Gundy

SALT LAKE CITY – The Oklahoma State Cowboys are reportedly set to fire longtime head coach Mike Gundy following a disastrous start to the 2025 season.
After a 69-3 blowout loss at Oregon, Gundy’s fate was sealed when Tulsa rolled into Boone Pickens Stadium and handed the Pokes a 19-12 loss on September 19.
Multiple outlets reported the termination on Tuesday, September 23.
His firing opens a 30-day transfer portal window for players to explore a change of scenery. The Cowboys host Baylor on September 27.

Oklahoma State has been outscored 95-42 this season, averaging just 14 points per game.
Gundy came into the season needing a turnaround after the Cowboys began 2024 with high expectations, only to face-plant in a disastrous 3-9 season.
Gundy’s dismissal means that University of Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham (21 seasons) is now the longest-tenured coach in the Big 12 and the second-longest-tenured coach in the country behind Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz.
About Mike Gundy
The 58-year-old coach has been the face of Oklahoma State football since being named head coach of the program in January 2005. His history with the program extends much farther.
Gundy was a four-year starting QB (1986-89) before joining the coaching staff in 1990 as the receivers coach.
Jokes aside, Mike Gundy was the Heart and Soul of Oklahoma State and coached his teams the right way.

He left the program for Baylor in 1996 before returning in 2001 as the Cowboys’ assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
The three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year (2010, 2021, 2023) led the Cowboys to the 2011 Big 12 title.
Gundy leaves Oklahoma State with a 170-90 overall record and was 12-6 in bowl games.
