SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn walked into Ames, Iowa, in 2010 and put up an all-time performance as the Utes rolled to a 68-27 win over Iowa State.
It was a standout performance for the Utes in their last season of the Mountain West against a Big 12 opponent, and it helped add weight to the school’s move to the Pac-12 as a new member of a “power conference.”
Now, 16 years and a move to the Big 12 later, No. 17 Utah is headed back to Ames for the first time since that October night.
The conference opener for Utah and Iowa State will kickoff at 1:30 p.m. MT on FOX, making it the second straight week Utah will be showcased on FOX (and the third scheduled so far) this season.
Utah is expected to enter Jack Trice Stadium with an undefeated record behind blowout performances against Idaho State and Arkansas, and as a heavy favorite over Utah State this weekend, in what will be the team’s first road game of the season.
The Utes feature the sixth best scoring offense in the country this season, putting up an average of 54.5 points per game, behind a creative offensive system that utilizes several players and scheme designs to keep opposing defenses guessing.
Iowa State won the first meeting between the two schools as members of the Big 12, with the Cyclones coming away with a 31-28 win at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Nov. 23, 2024.

Following the Iowa State game, Utah will enter its lone bye week of the season before returning home to Rice-Eccles Stadium on Oct. 10 for a home contest against Kansas. The game time and TV designation for that contest will be released the week of Sept. 27.
