SALT LAKE CITY – When Devon Dampier and Utah football were brought up on “The Pat McAfee Show,” McAfee had a lot to say about both the quarterback and the team’s performance in week one against UCLA.

McAfee highlighted both Dampier’s entertaining style of play, and the way that Utah controlled the game from start to finish.

In the show’s segment ‘You (Probably) Slept On’, McAfee started with Dampier.

He mentioned his stats from last year in New Mexico before playing some clips from Saturday’s game, calling Dampier both “unstoppable” and “electrifying.”

“Devon Dampier. He’s a problem,” McAfee said. “He’s unstoppable. It seems like you can’t tackle him. He’s absolutely electrifying. Watching him late night was a little bit of a scary sight, this guy is really good. He seems to have it.”

Dampier’s Utah debut lived up to the hype, but it was the Utes’ full-team effort that stood out.

McAfee highlighted the 21-play, nearly 10-minute third-quarter drive. With a strong offense, great defense, and good quarterback play, McAfee asked if this could be the Utes’ year.

“(Utah) went on a 21-play drive that was 9:44 seconds long,” McAfee started. “I didnt even know that was possible, to have 21 plays on a drive. You’re talking about an insanely powerful team. You team that up with the defense that they’re always going to have in Utah, is this the year for the Utes, maybe?”

Earlier in the show, while discussing who is ‘real’ in college football, McAfee brought up Utah, calling the Utes “unbelievable” and a “powerhouse” as he set up the later segment.

McAfee isn’t the only one high on Utah football.

Sports database TeamRankings lists the Utes at No. 14 nationally after the UCLA win, making them the Big 12 favorite and favored in every remaining game. CBS Sports’ Bud Elliott even projected Utah as the No. 4 seed in his College Football Playoff predictions.

Of course, the season will provide the real answer. But Utah’s showcase in the Rose Bowl opened plenty of eyes.
