LOGAN, Utah- Since the end of the season for Mason Falslev and the Aggies 21 days ago, Utah State fans have gone through a roller coaster as coaching decisions and transfer portal transactions have dominated the narrative surrounding the program.

Much of the burden was lifted when head coach Jerrod Calhoun signed a deal to remain in Logan, but he was only one piece. Many eyes then looked to star sophomore guard Mason Falslev to see if he would enter the transfer portal or stay an Aggie.

All of that can be put to rest after Falslev announced on the Utah State Aggie Basketball Coaches Show that he would be returning, followed by an Instagram post this morning.

Mason Falslev joined the voice of the Aggies and KSL Sports’ own Scott Garrard in the final episode of the season just 30 minutes after signing his deal to remain at Utah State.

Mason, who had another extremely impactful year as the Aggies’ second leading scorer, became a target for high-major programs following the conclusion of the season, but unfortunently for them, Falslev never had intentions of leaving.

“It wasn’t too crazy because I knew I wanted to stay here, and I just wanted to know what the situation would be and how we would make it work,” said Falslev. “At the end of the day, I think I wanted to be here, I really like playing for Calhoun and his staff, so it was a pretty easy decision.”

Mason Falslev In His Sophomore Season

Mason Falsle has started in all 68 games that he has played for Utah State, dating back to the beginning of his redshirt freshman season.

Falslev took a major jump in most statistical categories from his freshman to sophomore year. He surged from 11.3 to 15 points per game, 4.4 to 6.3 rebounds per game, 2.4 to 3.7 assists per game, and 1.3 to 2.3 steals per game. Probably the most remarkable improvement was his three-point percentage, which went from 30.5% to 39%.

Mason also took a step in his development as a leader of the team, becoming more and more vocal in huddles and on the court as the season progressed.

Mason’s biggest offensive performance this season came in the non-conference against North Texas, where he put up 28 points on 10-16 from the field and five three-pointers.

About Mason Falslev

The back-to-back 4A Utah MVP in basketball and 2019 4A MVP in football used his athleticism on drives to the basket and strength to finish through contact. Defensively, the 6’3, 203-pound athlete harrassed ball handlers with endless effort and intensity.

After redshirting in 2022, the Sky View High School product quickly became integral to USU’s lineup under Danny Sprinkle. Falslev’s 34 starts and 950 minutes played are third in the USU record books for a freshman. He added 1.2 steals and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Despite making just 25-of-82 threes (.305) as a freshman, Falslev was one of four Aggies to average double-figure scoring (11.3 ppg). Falslev took advantage of his explosive athleticism, making 133-of-199 attempts (.668) inside the arc as one of the best finishers in the conference.

The three-time MW Freshman of the Week reached double-figure scoring 20 times, including a previous career-high 25 in a win over Boise State. He added a career-high 28 to win the NIT Season Tip-Off over North Texas.
