Utah State Suffers Back-To-Back Losses For Second Time This Season

SAN DIEGO, California – Utah State is no longer alone atop the Mountain West standings after suffering its second straight defeat in a lopsided, 89-72 loss to San Diego State.
The Aztecs (19-8, 13-4) hosted USU (23-5, 13-4 ) at Viejas Arena on Wednesday, February 25.
Utah State and San Diego State began the day as the top two teams in a top-heavy Mountain West Conference.
First Half
Freshman Adlan Elamin and senior MJ Collins Jr. staked USU to an early 9-4 lead with a trio of three-point field goals.

Karson Templin continued his great play of late with a one-handed throwdown off a dish from Kolby King.
Utah State led 15-11 midway through the half before falling silent offensively.

SDSU capitalized with an 11-2 run to take a 22-17 lead when Reese Dixon-Waters drilled a shot from deep.
The Aztecs made seven of nine shots at one point while the Aggies went without a field goal for nearly three minutes.
USU couldn’t buy a bucket, missing eight consecutive shots as the deficit ballooned to double-digits.
A late three-pointer gave San Diego State a 46-33 halftime lead.
Second Half
Elamin stifled a 5-0 SDSU post-halftime run with a two-handed putback dunk early in the period.
It would be one of the few Aggie highlights in the final 20 minutes.
The Aztecs built a 22-point lead midway through the half.
San Diego State earned an 89-72 win to even the season series.
