LOGAN, Utah – It was all Utah State from the opening tap as the Aggies never trailed against Colorado State, leading by as many as 44 in a 100-58 win.

The Aggies opened the Mountain West Conference portion of their schedule by hosting the Colorado State Rams at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday, December 20.

USU began the weekend leading the league with a 9-1 non-conference record. The Rams’ 9-2 record is tied with New Mexico and Wyoming in the MW.

Mason Falslev led six Aggies in double-digit scoring with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting with two triples. MJ Collins added 15 points, while Drake Allen contributed a dozen points.

Kolby King and Karson Templin each finished with ten points.

Freshmen Elijah Perryman and Adlan Elamin combined for 20 points, five assists, and nine rebounds while giving head coach Jerrod Calhoun confidence on both ends.

USU shot 64 percent as a team, including 57 percent from deep. The Aggie defense forced 15 turnovers and turned them into 27 points.

First Half

Utah State came roaring out of the blocks, extending its pressure defense full court on the way to a 7-0 lead before many fans had found their seats.

CSU starting forward Kyle Jorgensen left early with an injury and was later seen on crutches with an ice pack strapped to his left knee.

USU led 12-0 with 15:41 left.

The crowd erupted when hometown hero Mason Falslev scored 12 straight points, extending the Aggie advantage to 14-2.

Colorado State wouldn’t score until the 14:38 mark of the first half.

True freshman Adlan Elamin was a spark plug for the Aggies. Elamin soared to swat a corner three out of bounds on the defensive end and used his length and athleticism to make plays on offense all afternoon.

MJ Collins Jr., the Mountain West’s leading scorer, went on an 11-0 run himself later in the half as USU maintained a 20+ point advantage.

Colorado State began to muck up the game late in the half, drawing fouls to slow USU down.

The strategy slowed the Aggies down, but did little to help the Rams get back into the game.

USU was in complete control in the opening 20 minutes.

The Aggies held advantages in nearly every major statistic, including an 8-0 fastbreak points lead, and outscoring the Rams 20-4 in the paint.

Collins Jr. and Falslev combined to make 9-of-12 shots, including 5-of-6 from deep for 23 points.

Utah State shot 61 percent (17-of-28) from the field while limiting CSU to 26 percent (6-of-23) to lead 45-24 at the break.

Second Half

Both teams came out of halftime and played evenly through the first media timeout. USU led 55-31 with 15:43 to play.

Kolby King connected with Karson Templin for a two-handed throwdown that got the hometown faithful out of their seats and gave the Aggies a 59-33 lead.

The advantage grew to 30 minutes later when Elamin knocked down a mid-range floater from the baseline.

As the Aggies pulled away, the game became increasingly disjointed and erratic.

Utah State led by 43 after Elamin soared for a fastbreak dunk with less than five minutes remaining. The throwdown gave the freshman ten points, making him the fifth Aggie in double-digit scoring.

USU ran away with a 100-58 win.
