LOGAN, Utah – Utah State and newly minted head coach Bronco Mendenhall’s future is more apparent after the program signed 36 players on National Signing Day.

The Aggies announced their 36-player class on Wednesday, February 5. 247sports.com rated it the fourth-best class in the Mountain West. Seventeen of USU’s signees have been considered three-star recruits during their career.

Mendenhall joined Hans & Scotty G on KSL Sports Zone to discuss his first signing day with the program. Listen to the full interview here.

“Ultimately, the reason I coach and the coolest part about my job is the chance to influence and impact young people,” Mendenhall stated. “It’s inspiring to see what the next generation of young people can do and will do when given the chance to lead.”

Mendenhall’s first signing class includes 12 prep athletes, seven junior college transfers, and 17 four-year transfer students. Nearly one-third of the 36 players hail from the Beehive State.

Six of Mendenhall’s former New Mexico players joined their coach in the move north.

California contributed seven players; three are from Texas and Washington. Two players each are from Illinois and Nevada. Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wyoming, and American Samoa add one apiece.

“I really like what we’ve done, I like the timeframe we’ve done it in, I really like the young players we’ve brought in because 22 of them are already on campus here working out with us,” Mendenhall said of his hopes for the program.

The National letter-of-intent signing period began today and ends on Tuesday, April 1.

USU lands two BYU transfers on offense

Sophomore transfer quarterback Anthony Garcia headlines the class at the sport’s most important position, but two former Cougars will stand out for locals.

Running back Miles Davis leaves a crowded BYU backfield to join the Aggies as a senior. Former Weber State Wildcat and BYU offensive lineman Jake Eichorn accompanies Davis in the two-hour drive north on I-15.

Eichorn played in 11 games for the Cougars across two seasons, including nine appearances in 2024. Davis ran for 468 yards in 27 career games in Provo. He played eight games as a junior in 2024, making one start.

After completing his redshirt freshman season at Arizona in 2024, Garcia will head to Logan. As a prepster at Capital Christian High School in Sacramento, California, 247sports.com rated him a three-star prospect.

Utah State’s class includes 14 offensive players: seven wide receivers, three linemen, three running backs, and Garcia as a signal caller.

Utah State adds 19 defenders

The Aggies added bulk on the interior, landing four linemen, four inside linebackers, and three outside linebackers. USU added four cornerbacks and four safeties on the perimeter to bolster its depth.

“Slightly more defensive needs than offensive needs,” Mendenhall said of their recruiting focus. “If you start breaking it down by position, you’ll really see the numbers we’ve signed is reflective of the current needs we have.”

Junior college transfer Sampson Alofipo continues a family tradition in Logan. The outside linebacker’s cousin, Malakai Alofipo, is on the team, and his brother, Saco, played for the program in 2022.
