Former Utah State Head Football Coach Chuck Mills Passes Away At Age 92

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State University announced that former head football coach Chuck Mills passed away this past weekend at age 92.

Chuck Mills was the head football coach for Utah State for six seasons from 1967-72. He led the Aggies to a 38-23-1 record and a 17-7 mark at home. Mills and the Aggies were 8-4 against BYU and Utah during that stretch.
The 38 career wins with the Aggies for Mills ranks third all-time in Utah State history. In 1971, Utah State became the first American collegiate football team to go to Japan to play the Japanese All-Star teams.
Chuck Mills who served as Utah State's 16th head football coach from 1967-72, passed away this weekend at age 92.

Mills coached from 1951-97, beginning at Chicago Mount Carmel High School as an assistant coach. The Chicago, Illinois native became the head coach for the first time at Mendel Catholic High School from 1952-53. Then he went to North Chicago HS and Loyola High School for one season each. His first collegiate job was the lineman coach for Citrus Junior College. After one season there, he became an assistant from 1957-58 at Pomona before being the head coach from 1959-61.
Mills became the head coach at Indiana State for two seasons before taking the head job at Merchant Marine for the 1964 season. In 1965, he was an assistant coach at Arizona before making the jump to the NFL in 1966. After one season with the Chiefs, Mills became the head coach of Utah State.
When his stint at USU ended, he was the head coach of Wake Forest from 1973-77 and then went to Southern Oregon from 1980-88. His last head coaching gig was one season at the Coast Guard in 1997.
