Mason Falslev Vies For Top Mountain West Honor As Utah State Seeks Conference Crown

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State guard Mason Falslev has done everything his team has asked this season—scoring, rebounding, defending, and leading—now he stands one win away from delivering a Mountain West championship

Entering the decisive final weekend, Falslev has also positioned himself as a conference player of the year candidate.

The junior guard is a stabilizing force whose leadership and production have carried Utah State (24-6, 14-5) toward the top of the league.

“A lot of guys, they want the responsibility until it’s time to have the responsibility,” Calhoun said after a recent win over Grand Canyon. Falslev, he noted, has backed up his voice with action: “Mason Falslev cares.”

The junior has proven he can shoulder the responsibility while posting another banner year for an NCAA tournament-bound Aggie team.

On the court, that care translates into one of the most complete two-way players in the conference.

Mason Falslev’s all-around game sets the tone for the Aggies

Offensive contributions are easy for even the most casual of fans to see, but it’s often the intangibles that show Falslev’s true importance.

Beginning with his never-ending supply of energy and physical frame, the former Sky View High School dual-sport star can cover huge portions of the court while constantly pestering opposing ball-handlers.

His two steals per game are top 40 in the country and lead the Mountain West.

At 6’4”, Falslev’s 5.8 rebounds per game are the seventh most in the league, making him one of the best rebounding guards in the country.

The fan favorite adds 16 points (7^th in MW) and 2.9 assists while shooting 51.8 percent from the field —the second-best in the Mountain West—and the statistical case for Falslev’s award candidacy is substantial.

After posting a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double in a loss to UNLV, Falslev needs one more clutch performance to help his squad secure the conference’s regular -season crown.

The road won’t be easy for Utah State.

New Mexico stands between USU and the Mountain West title

Utah State heads into the final weekend of the 2025-26 regular season needing one win to clinch the outright Mountain West regular-season championship.

“Late February and March, players have got to take over,” Calhoun told KSL Sports Zone Scott Garrard after losing to UNLV. “Let’s call it like this, we have not played well in a couple of weeks. We’ll regroup.”

On the other side of the winner-take-all matchup are the New Mexico Lobos, a team that aches to hand the Aggies a home loss following a USU blowout earlier this season.

The Aggies look to get the taste of a 27-point loss to UNLV out of their mouths and head into the conference postseason tournament on a high note.

New Mexico (22-7, 13-5) has one fewer day of rest after hosting Colorado State in a late Wednesday night tilt. The Lobos hope to erase the sting of an 86-66 home loss to Utah State in February.

USU is 13-1 at home this season, while New Mexico is 7-4 away from The Pit.

“At the end of the day at Utah State, you’re going to be judged on championships,” Calhoun stated. “We want to win. I want to win a championship in the worst way… And now it’s coming down to one game.”

For the hometown star from Benson, Utah, the stakes are clear. One final statement performance could help secure the Aggies a conference crown—and possibly solidify Falslev’s claim to Mountain West Player of the Year.
