LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies are having a good season in the first campaign under head coach Blake Anderson that has included tricks and treats.

In the first season under Blake Anderson, Utah State has a road win over a power-five team and is also in contention for a division title in the Mountain West Conference.

In honor of Halloween, here are the tricks and the treats for Utah State football this season.

Utah State Treats

Last season, Utah State scored 21 points or more in just one game and that was their 41-27 win over New Mexico. They finished with a 1-5 record and fired Gary Andersen midway through the season.

Blake Anderson brought in his fast-paced, high tempo offense that has provided a lot of treats for Aggie fans because they have scored 21 points or more in five of their seven games played. Utah State had 20 points in their loss to BYU. The two games where they scored less than 21 points was their two losses.

Deven Thompkins has been a really nice treat for Utah State. He was at one point in the transfer portal before deciding to return to Logan under coach Anderson. Thompkins is one of the top receivers in the country with 56 receptions for 923 yards and six touchdowns. Three other receivers, including Brandon Bowling, Derek Wright and Justin McGriff all have over 200 receiving yards this season.

Aggies’ Tricks

Many point to the Utah State defense and the lack of depth as a trick. The Aggies’ defense has allowed at least 23 points in every game this season. They have allowed over 30 points twice in 2021.

But Utah State is still 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Mountain West Conference play. A lot of that is due to the offense getting points on the board but the defense has made some key plays in clutch moments.
