Utah State Sees Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped By St. Mary’s

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah State men’s basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped in a close loss to the St. Mary’s Gaels.
The Aggies hosted the Gaels on Thursday, December 2.
USU fell to St. Mary’s, 60-58.

The first half of the contest was a low-scoring affair. Utah State owned a 20-16 lead at the halftime intermission.
Both teams doubled their offensive output over the final 20 minutes of game time.
The Aggies and Gaels were tied in the final minute before Alex Ducas buried a pair of free throws in the final seconds to lift St. Mary’s to victory.

The Aggies finished the game shooting 37.7 percent from the field, including 20.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Two USU players reached double figures in scoring. Justin Bean led the Aggies with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Steven Ashworth added 12 points off the bench.

St. Mary’s shot 45.3 percent overall and 30.4 percent on three-pointers.
With the loss, the Aggies fell to a 6-2 record and suffered a loss for the first time since their season opener.
Utah State’s next game is on the road against the No. 12 BYU Cougars on Wednesday, December 8 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on BYUtv and KSLNewsRadio.
